As a birthparent, you should know that all adoptive parents are required to show that they are emotionally and financially able to parent a child. They are required to complete training in a series of GPS (Group Preparation and Selection) classes, conducted by licensed social workers and foster/adoptive parents. Finally, adoptive parents must also complete a home study process before being approved as adoptive parents.

Birthmothers, you should also know that you have a number of choices. For instance:

• You can select from one of our families by reviewing a number of family profiles.
• You can choose to let us select an adoptive family for you.
• You can choose to meet the adoptive family.
• You can receive letters or pictures of the child from his/her adoptive family.
• You can choose to have a more open adoption where a relationship is developed between you and the adoptive family.
• You can decide on what the plan will be at the hospital.
